10 Bible Verses for the New Year
The New Year is upon us; this is the time of the year when you reset your life. Making goals such as:
“I’m going to lose 20 pounds.”
“I’m going to get closer to God.”
“I will be out of debt!”
Right now, you are probably working very hard toward the resolutions that you made for yourself. You are excited about the New Year and everything that you will accomplish.
Before we head into tackling the New Year, I would love to provide some Bible verses to help you this year and the years to come. The year’s journey will not be easy, so I want you to know that God is with you no matter how this year pans out. Each Bible Verse that I found is for specific situations that can come up that you can come back and visit when those times come.
1. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17
When we give our life to Christ, we are new. Choosing to continue being new instead of returning to your old ways can be a great reminder as you go through the year.
2. “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” – Romans 12:2
Two things to take from this: No matter what the World tells you to do, please stick to Christ and the plans He has for you. If your friends, family, or social media encourages you to do otherwise, do not listen! You have business to take care of no matter what others say.
Second, there will be days when you will not feel like doing anything or working on goals. Keep renewing your mind daily. Remind yourself of your end goals. Meditate on Scriptures to keep a renewed mind.
3. For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power, love, and self-control.” – 2 Timothy 1:7
If the goals you set scare you, that’s good! You have the power to overcome whatever scary obstacles that come in your path.
4. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead.” – Phillipains 3:13
You probably couldn’t complete all of your goals in the previous year. That doesn’t mean this will be you this year. Instead of what happened (or didn’t happen), focus on what is ahead.
5. But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats ; do not be frightened.”- 1 Peter 3:14
If you are trying to quit smoking, quit drinking, wait until marriage to have sex, etc., you may come across some people who will give you a hard time about it. They might encourage you to drink or smoke, or your boyfriend/girlfriend may encourage you to have sex. Nonetheless, stay strong in your goal no matter what they say. Even if they say they will end their relationship with you, why be with someone who wouldn’t be supportive?
6. “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season. we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”- Galatians 6:9
You may be working toward a goal, and you don’t see any progress, or you might think you don’t see it, but keep going!
7. But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. – Isaiah 40:31
You will most likely be discouraged (even before January is over), but put your hope in the Lord. Keep going no matter what!
8. “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” – Hebrews 11:1
You will need faith as you keep going. You can’t visibly see the end goals or the progress sometimes, but you have to have faith that it is there.
9. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” – Matthew 6:34
When you start to worry about the things that are going on In your life, remember to take it a day at a time. If you need more Bible verses about anxiety, you can check it out here.
10. “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you” – 1 Peter 5:7
All in all, God is always with you. If you need a shoulder to lean on, if you need to be comforted, God is always there. He wants to be there with you when you are making progress and He wants to be there when you are getting overwhelmed with your goals. Lean on God this year!
Final Thoughts
