5 Powerful Bible Verses to Help with Anxiety
At one point in our lives, we all experience some form of anxiety. It is a common emotion that we can feel pretty often. However, sometimes we let it overtake our entire life and ruin our day.
Quick Story
Next week, I will start my new travel nurse assignment in Indianapolis. I have never been to Indianapolis, so I began to get a slight feeling of anxiety. I have never traveled to the Midwest, so I knew nothing about it.
However, it started to get out of hand when I started thinking about the hospital I was going to, how the culture will be, etc. It got to the point that I felt like I made the wrong decision to leave my home for a few months.
I let my anxiety get the best of me, and I honestly forgot how much of a blessing this opportunity would be for me. More money, improving my nursing skills, and meeting new, exciting people truly started to outweigh my anxious thoughts.
Do you see how anxiety can mess with your mind?
God talks about being anxious and anxiety multiple times in the Bible. Many followers struggled with anxiety but were reminded not to be nervous. If God didn’t want them to be anxious, do you truly believe God wants your anxiety to overtake your mind?
That said, I provided 5 Bible verses for you to read and meditate on when those anxious moments take a toll on you. If your anxiety is extreme, therapy would not be a bad suggestion. Mediating on the Word and going to therapy can benefit you. Sometimes, however, you must sit down and calm those anxious thoughts.
1. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline”- 2 Timothy 1:7
Sometimes our anxiety can make us feel small and weak, but remember you are one of God’s children and have a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline. Which means, through Christ, you can overcome it.
2. “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” – Matthew 6:34
I can say I struggle with this. I will worry about what will happen next month, next year, and the next few years. However, being so worried about the future can sometimes be overwhelming. The things you have anxiety about don’t even happen for the most part! So why be anxious about what might come (or not come) and not just focus on the present?
3. “And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?”- Matthew 6:27
Aniexty doesn’t add to your life one bit. Think about a moment you let your anxiety take up so much of your day. Those are moments that could’ve been used for productivity or rest.
4. “Casting all your anxieties on him, because He cares for you”- 1 Peter 5:7
Jesus wants to take your burdens, so why not talk to him about them? Prayer and talking to Jesus about your cares can help you tremendously.
5. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God”- Philippians 4:6
There are things in life that cause us so much anxiety, but after a while, you learn you were anxious for nothing. Talk to Christ. He may reveal a solution to your anxiety and also provide peace.
Final Thoughts
Will this make your anxiety go away instantly all of the time? No
You may still read and read and still feel anxious. I encourage you to work on learning the root cause of some of your anxiety. Talk to God, talk to a therapist, talk to someone that you can trust. Mediate on the Word so that when those thoughts come into your mind, the Word of God will also come to mind. Anxiety does not have to control your life; there is hope for you!

These are all great verses to help! Anxiety is something I think most of us have struggled with at some time, so having resources to reference can really help!

Yes, the ancient texts will guide us when we use them to look inward as opposed to using them as a weapon to judge others. Ive heard these verses 1,000 times but they are always relevant.
